Event Photography
Real life never goes "out of style"...but phoney, fake and staged pictures do!
Emotions and actions often transpire at the blink of an eye. Turn away for just a moment and they're gone. A staged photograph doesn't show what happened. It can't show the feelings flitting on faces, the whisper between a bride and her mother before a wedding, toddling legs during a sudden spill, a head tipped back in laughter over in the back corner, cousins conspiring across the room...
Rather than providing staged, "fake" shots of people, Charles knows how to capture the essence of a person and event. Instead of orchestrating shots where everyone must line up just so and place a hand on this shoulder and lean slightly to the left, etc., Charles prefers to take a photojournalistic approach of capturing what really happens right as it occurs. Guests and participants are photographed in a way that allows clients to remember the details of their special day or event.
Charles also makes a great team member when another, more traditional posed shot photographer is also employed during an event!
From Charles:
"Most humbling for me, perhaps, are the times when photos that I have taken of people at an event have become either their career photos or have been used in memorials when the person later passed away. The first example of this was of a fire fighter who I captured exiting a burning packing shed with smoke billowing around him. This individual has kept this shot as a defining moment of his career and he has told me that he believes it will be his "career photo".
Another example of this is when I photographed a woman at a canine training event. This woman, who was very fond of her dogs, passed away a bit over a year later. I was contacted by members of her training group and asked if I would allow a particular photo of her looking down at her dog while he looked up at her with his leash in his mouth. From what I was told by members of her training group, that shot perfectly illustrated the chosen passion of this woman's life and the love she and her animals had for each other. I humbly granted them permission to use this photo on the memorial fliers which were distributed at her funeral."
