YOSEMITE VALLEY RAILWAY
(Map of Yosemite National Park with the caption:)
Yosemite Valley is but a small part of the entire park, which has a area of 1,176 square miles.
THE NATURAL gateway to the magic valley - Yosemite. From the world's farthest corners thousands come every year to revel in the scenic beauty and unique charm of this great playground. And now the trip by rail to Yosemite is finer than ever before - and so easily arranged.

Smooth riding, comfortable trains of the Yosemite Valley Railway operate daily from Merced, in California's fertile San Joaquin Valley, seventy eight colorful miles to El Portal, the terminal from which connecting stages quickly carry travelers direct to their hotel or cabin on the floor of the valley.

A delightful trip through a lush valley and the wooded canyon of the picturesque Merced River. Crossing a staunch bridge of steel, highest in the west, your Yosemite Valley Railway train winds in and out along the river through a canyon teaming with reminiscences of the stirring gold days of '49.

By day, equipment includes a roomy, spotlessly clean observation parlor car, movable chairs of cool wicker from which to view behind screened windows the scenic glory flashing past.

Throughout the summer, through air conditioned Pullman service is provided direct from San Francisco to El Portal - a convenient, comfortable over night journey. Leaving in the evening via Southern Pacific main line these sleepers are delivered at Merced to the Yosemite Valley Railway, to be carried on for arrival in the valley next morning.

Round trips fares to Yosemite Valley by rail are low. Visitors from the east can include this inviting side trip in their western itinerary at amazingly low cost. Just ask any railroad ticket agent for further details.
