"From a recent
trip up the Merced river, between Jaspar(sic) Point and Bagby, the
writer had the opportunity of seeing how much progress had been made
since the construction of the Yosemite Valley Railroad. Car loads
of jaspar are shipped from this point. About forty men are at work,
and a huge rock breaker has been constructed, that with a station
and a small place of business, the above presents the appearance
of a new town. At White's Gulch, presently called Kittridge, laborers
are busy erecting a power plant which will furnish electricity to
develop all the mines in this locality if desired."
